문 대통령은 이날 청와대에서 BBC와 인터뷰를 갖고 "15만명 앞에서 연설한 건 큰 영광이었다"며 이같이 말했다. BBC 방송에 따르면 문 대통령은 "비핵화에 대해서 말하고 북한 주민들의 긍정적 반응을 받아야 했다. 또 세계뿐 아니라 한국 국민들도 만족시켜야 해 쉽지 않은 과제였다"고 털어놨다.
문 대통령은 그러나 "김 위원장은 내게 '이런 걸 말해 달라'거나, '무슨 말을 할지 알려달라'고도 하지 않았다"며 "이게 지금 북한에서 일어나는 변화를 보여준다고 믿는다"고 말했다.

I got them as a present from Chairman Kim during my trip to Pyongyang this time and they are actually designated as national treasures in North Korea.
Honestly, there are not a lot of media that focuses on this. It was actually a great honour for me to address 150,000 citizens in Pyongyang during my time in North Korea. I was actually quite nervous to give the speech. Actually, I had to address the problem of denuclearisation and had to receive positive vibes from the North Korean people. And also I had to satisfy the Korean public as well as the global public. So it was not an easy task for me.
But I need to tell you one thing, Chairman Kim actually had no strings attached when he gave me this opportunity to make a speech to the public. He never asked me to to say things certain things or he didn’t even want to know what I was going to say before the speech. I believe this demonstrates the changes that is happening in North Korea right now.
